Types of Resumes
There are many acceptable resume formats, the two most commonly used formats
are the chronological resume and the functional resume. Both formats are easily
read by employers and fairly simple to construct. Feel free to combine elements
of both of these formats:
THE CHRONOLOGICAL RESUME
This resume is distinguished by its straightforward style. Employment history
is listed in chronological order making it easy to read. People who use this
version usually have stable work histories. This format is not recommended for
people with little experience or who wish to de-emphasize an inconsistent work
record.
THE FUNCTIONAL RESUME
This type of resume emphasizes what you have actually accomplished in your career,
rather then when or where. You should include the skills relevant to the job
for which you are applying and provide details of your achievements with these
skills. If your work history reflects a lot of short-term jobs, you should use
this format.
