LA Works Participates in Relay for Life
Relay for Life is the main volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Originating in the United States, the Relay for Life event has spread to 21 countries. Relay events are held in local communities, campus universities, military bases, and in cyberspace. Although the main objective of Relay is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, the event is held to spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and unite a community in the fight against cancer.
This year LA Works staff "went bananas for a cure!" by joining the "Relay Monkeys" team led by Karen Dalton, Kelley Holtom, Kim Miller, and Diana Poore. The team's purpose was to honor those we know and love who have battled cancer; the team's goal was to raise $3,500.00 for the cause. The Relay Monkeys met at California High School in Whittier on April 28th and 29th for the overnight event. Sponsorships for "Hey, Hey We're the Monkeys" came from Velocity Cycling Club , the Inmate Services Bureau, Claylee's Dance Academy, Dr. Holtom, MFT, The Bailey Café, REEVECO, LA WORKS….and more making this year's event a huge success!
