LA Works, Local Marines Create Christmas Miracle

LA Works and Toys for Tots are teaming up to provide presents for 300 deserving children this holiday season. On December 23rd at LA Works in Irwindale, the Marine Toys for Tots (Pasadena branch) will be providing unwrapped toys to low-income families participating in employment programs.

Toys for TotsLA Works Program Coordinator Mario Rodriguez, who oversees employment programs for local low-income adults, noticed that many program participants are supporting families on limited incomes. He then approached Gunnery Sergeant Baskin from the U.S. Marine Reserves in Pasadena about partnering to provide over 300 gifts for children of program participants. Baskin enthusiastically agreed.

“We are thrilled to establish this partnership knowing how much it means to the families who work so hard as participants in our programs,” remarked Rodriguez. “The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is going to make this Christmas a memorable one for a lot of deserving children.”
One adult program participant will be receiving a toy for her 3-year old daughter. She is expecting her second child in January. “I am very thankful for this opportunity,” she said. “Without this, we wouldn’t have had much of a Christmas.”

Toys will be distributed from 4:00 – 5:00 pm on December 23rd. For more information, contact Mario Rodriguez at mario.rodriguez@laworks.org.
