LA Works CollegeWorks Program
Selected for Young Worker
Leadership Academy
DECEMBER, 2009

Irwindale, CA
The Universities of California at Berkeley and Los Angeles, along with the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation, are sponsoring 3-day, all-expense-paid Young Worker Leadership Academies in Los Angeles in February 2010.

These Academies offer a unique opportunity for young adults to become leaders and advocates for teen worker rights in workplace health and safety. The College Works Program assembled a team of 4 students (and 1 alternate) to apply for the Leadership Academy. We are happy to announce the LA Works and the College Works Program was selected as one of only 6 teams in Southern California!

Leadership AcademyOur team consists of a unique blend of students including a special education student, a student who has only been in the United States for 2 years and 2 other students with specific educational barriers. Our team members were selected based on their personal essay expressing a commitment to serving their fellow students in California. Each team will plan and carry out a local action to promote teen worker safety during May 2010, Safe Jobs for Youth Month. Youth participants will gain first-hand experience in actually making a difference. The students participating in 2010 are invited back in 2011 to act as mentors for the next group.
