Irwindale, CA, - LA Works joined with thousands of women, companies and organizations and cities across America to support the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red on National Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. It's a simple, powerful way to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke.
LA Works staff members participated in the “Wear Red for the Cause™” event by wearing red and making a donation to the American Heart Association to support ongoing research and education about women and heart disease.
Since Go Red For Women launched in 2004,
cities have turned landmarks red, including the Ben Franklin Bridge, Graceland, the Empire State Building, the Space Needle in Seattle, the Puerto Rico Capitol and more, during February, American Heart Month. This year on Friday February 6, 2009 cities across the country went Red by illuminating buildings and monuments in red to raise awareness of women and heart disease.
Why Wear Red?
Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women (and men), but the good news is heart disease can often be prevented. Spreading the Go Red For Women message raises awareness of heart disease and empowers women to reduce their risk.
