LA WORKS COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP "HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE"
APRIL, 2008

Irwindale, CA - On March 26, 2008, the LA Works Partnership presented our first-ever “Honoring Those Who Serve” Veterans Information Seminar at the American legion in West Covina. Experts in the fields of employment, housing, medical/mental health, and education/training came together as panel presenters.

Attendees were offered Continental Breakfast and were welcomed by the West Covina High School ROTC Color Guard’s presentation of colors and Pledge of Allegiance. Our Panel experts on employment services and assistance included the Employment Development Department, Los Angeles County Veteran’s Services, and the Department of Rehabilitation.

Also present were the Volunteers of America, California Department of Veterans Affairs and the US Vets department to present information on housing, counseling, and HOPE to homeless veterans through their programs. These valuable agencies foster the skills necessary for every veteran to return to the community and remain self-sufficient.

Arcadia Mental health, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the United American Indian Involvement agencies provided information on available medical and mental health assistance. These agencies strive to ensure veterans know about the medical services and other benefits available to them and are committed to getting veterans the help they need and deserve.

A number of agencies such as TELACU, SELACO, ESGVROP/TC, Helmets to Hardhats, and the Department of Industrial Relations were on hand to offer information on their education and training programs which include on-the-job training through the construction allied trades and unions.

Perhaps the most appreciated offering was the group of local employers that were on-hand to accept applications and conduct preliminary interviews with event attendees. The event was a tremendous success and the Partnership is planning to hold another seminar soon. For more information about LA Works, contact
