LA Works Wins Eureka Award for Performance Excellence

LA Works has been awarded The Eureka Award for Performance Excellence by the California Council for Quality and Service. The California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE) program is a three-step process that utilizes the most current Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Awards (MBNQA) criteria. The Eureka Award for Performance Excellence is the top-stage award given.

"The staff and partners of LA Works put in a great deal of time and effort in meeting the requirements of the Eureka Award," said Kathryn Ford, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of LA Works. "Committees were formed, improvements and streamlining of our operational processes were carried out, and the organization from top to bottom was involved in ensuring that we could meet and exceed the requirements."

The California Quality Awards program is the basis for organizational self-assessments, for making Awards, and for giving feedback to applicants. In addition, the program has three other important roles in strengthening California's competitiveness:

  • to help improve performance practices and capabilities;
  • to facilitate communication and sharing of best practices information among California organizations of all types; and
  • to serve as a working tool for understanding and managing performance, planning, and training.

The criteria are designed to help organizations enhance their competitiveness through focus on two, results-oriented goals. These goals are the delivery of ever-improving value to customers, resulting in marketplace success, and improvement of overall organizational performance and capabilities. The seven criteria are Leadership, Strategic Planning, Customer and Market Focus, Information and Analysis, Human Resource Focus, Process Management, and Business Results.

The partners and staff of LA Works were involved at all levels in making this effort a success. "It is an honor for LA Works to receive the Eureka Award for Performance Excellence," said Sal Velasquez, Chief Executive Officer of LA Works. "Our partners and staff put in a great deal of time and effort, and we are very excited that our organization has been recognized for our commitment to service excellence."
