DELEGATES FROM SHANGHAI VISIT LA WORKS

LA Works was honored by a visit from a delegation of senior representatives of the Shanghai Municipal Employment Promotion Center, the Labor & Social Security Bureau Pudong New Area District, The Administrative Center for Migrant Workers of Chongming, Jingan, Jiading, and Putuo District, and the International Cooperation Division of the Shanghai Municipal Labor and Social Security Bureau on November 28, 2007. After visiting the Long Beach Job Corps office, they took the opportunity to visit our WorkSource Center to learn more about the One-Stop Career Center operations and partner services. The Delegation wanted to view an active One-Stop Career Center, and chose LA Works because of its successful One-Stop efforts and its emphasis on integrating Internet technology with the One-Stop model.

Mr. Gu Guoping, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Employment Promotion Center led the delegation whose team members included: Mr. Xiong Maosheng, Chief of Employment Division of the Labor and Social Security Bureau Pudong New Area, District, Shanghai; Mr. Wang Wei, Chief of the Administrative Center for Migrant Workers of Jiading District, Shanghai; Mr. Lu Jiawei, Chief of the Administrative Center for Migrant Workers of Putuo District, Ms. Chen Qinfang, Chief of the Administrative Center for Migrant Workers of Jingan District, Ms. Mei Li, Chief of the Administrative Center for Migrant Workers of Chongming District, Shanghai, and Mr. Yu Jianlin, Official of the International Cooperation Division of SMLSSB. They were greeted at LA Works by a distinguished group of workforce professionals. Present for this welcome were Dr. Laurel Adler, Director of the East San Gabriel Valley Technical and Regional Occupation Center, Mr. Olin King of the Employment Development Department, Mr. Salvador R. Velasquez, Chief Executive Officer of LA Works, and key LA Works’ staff.

After greetings were exchanged, Mr. Velasquez provided an overview of the LA Works Center operations as it relates to the Workforce Investment Act, and our guests gave information on current workforce initiatives in Shanghai, including their unemployment process. Part of the LA Works’ Operations review included a demonstration of our technology products, PrimeWorks and Work Radius by Susanne Ko of LA Works staff.

The exciting day ended with a farewell luncheon hosted by LA Works, where guests and hosts toasted each other’s future success in workforce development. Our visitors departed LA Works with many kind words, and we look forward to continuing our new "Trans-Pacific" friendship with this distinguished Shanghai Delegation.
