THE GREATER LOS ANGELES BUSINESS ALLIANCE
BUSINESS RETENTION SUMMIT A HUGE SUCCESS!
OCTOBER, 2007

The Greater Los Angeles Business Alliance (GLABA) held its ‘Business
Retention Summit’ on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the beautiful
Center at Cathedral Plaza in Los Angeles. Area Employers were invited
to meet the Alliance members and acquaint themselves with the services
and resources available through the Alliance. The Business Retention Summit
was attended by over eighty employers and Alliance members who enjoyed
a delicious lunch while listening to speeches on such topics as Worker’s
Compensation, Human Resource Benefits, and information about Los Angeles
Area business trends and outlook.
Kathryn Ford, Chief Operations Officer of LA Works, and
an Alliance member, had this to say of the success of the event: “The
Summit was all that we hoped for and more!!! What a great turnout and
a great kickoff to what we hope we can continue to provide to our business
community”. Formed in December 2006 and funded by a one-year state
of California grant, the Alliance was formed to provide much needed business
retention and layoff aversion services for our business community. With
over 28 Alliance members, GLABA has successfully identified, organized,
and coordinated valuable services and commodities to assist small and
new businesses that are just starting up or facing at-risk challenges
as well as employers that want to learn about free services available
to them.
Featured
speakers included Carrie Rogers, Vice President of the Los Angeles Economic
Development Corporation, an expert on what it takes to attract, retain
and grow businesses and jobs in the regions of Los Angeles County; Ken
Tiratira, Executive Vice President of the Employers Group who provided
information and guidance on human resources management; and Rose Nordbrock,
Vice President of Bolton & Company. Ms. Nordbrock presented a dynamic
speech on the intricacies and challenges of Worker’s Compensation
Insurance.
Johnene Leyba of Career Partners, who acted as emcee for the event, reviewed
the many accomplishments of the Alliance since its inception last December
and concluded by stating the Alliance was formed to help businesses maintain
their competitive edge through the development of a skilled workforce
and technology-driven business practices. Besides organizing and coordinating
the collaborative, the Alliance has also a developed a comprehensive website
(www.glaba.org) to help deliver resources to the business community and
facilitate communication amongst the Alliance and businesses.
