Veteran job expo 2007
Irwindale, CA – June 1, 2007
Irwindale,
CA – LA Works, in partnership with the California Employment Development
Department and the West Covina Police Department, organized the ‘Veteran
Job Expo 2007’. Over 90 local and national employers eager to tap
into the skills and discipline the military inspires in its members met
at Cameron Park Community Center in West Covina at the May 24th event.
The well-attended event was open to the general public and drew hundreds
of job seekers. The Expo provided veterans and the spouses of active-duty
service personnel with access to employers ranging from Homeland Security
to area department stores. The event also featured local vendors who volunteered
their time by providing free haircuts and manicures. Attendees were encouraged
to bring their resumes for free critiquing and received resume writing
and job interviewing advice as well as other resources to promote job
opportunities.
Events like the Veteran Job Expo help to lessen the challenge of job-hunting
our veterans face by bringing local employers to a central location. Job
seekers are able to receive information on a wide range of occupations
and meet with employers seeking talented and motivated candidates. The
goal of the Expo was to bring careers in all types of industries to the
attention of veterans and job seekers, to make the community aware of
our local job market and see that they have many career opportunities
from which to choose.
