LA Works Participates in China Trade Mission

Irwindale, CA – LA Works will be participating in a China Trade Mission on September 16 – 25, 2005. The trip is organized by the California World Trade Centers and State of California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, in cooperation with U.S. Department of Commerce, the statewide California Trade Partners, and other trade associations.

The China Trade Mission is business-focused, providing participants from the State of California with cultural, social, economic and political orientations in China. Various business briefings, receptions and meetings will lay the foundation for valuable business opportunities and unforgettable cultural experiences for attendees. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) General Assembly (GA) in Shanghai from September 21-23, 2005.

China is the United States’ fastest growing export market and is currently the world’s sixth largest economy. The number one two-way trading partner for the Los Angeles Customs District in 2004 was China with a total of $85.6 billion, a 25.4% gain from the prior year. Los Angles County is the largest international trade center in the United States. It is also a national leader in manufacturing and distribution. The Los Angeles Customs District will move to new record levels of activity in 2005. The total value of two-way trade through the District should increase by 14.3% to $302.1 billion.

LA Works recognizes that International import and export are integral parts of the California economy. Increasing the availability of trade information and resources in the San Gabriel Valley will serve the needs of local businesses. Participation in the China Trade Mission will position LA Works to begin providing San Gabriel Valley companies with access to the resources necessary to initiate, grow or diversify their import/export trade opportunities.

Founded in 1976 as the primary public job training and placement center for residents of cities in the East San Gabriel Valley, LA Works, a WorkSource Center, improves the quality of life of all customers, including career enhancing and educational opportunities, as well as community and business services. It is our mission to foster an environment of goal attainment for partners and the customers we serve.

LA Works, best known for its federally funded job training and placement services offers a wealth of much needed public services to residents in the east San Gabriel Valley. Services to the community include: Weatherization and Housing Rehabilitation for low-income households, Community Beautification projects for local cities, at-risk Youth Work Experience Programs, College Prep and Youth Mentoring. Job seekers can take advantage of a comprehensive system of training, and placement services.

In addition, LA Works offers services such as Internet Job and Talent Banks, Recruitment Services, Videoconferencing and Consultant Works to assist local businesses with their recruitment and business needs.

LA Works, based in Irwindale also offers its services at a satellite Mini Career Center located in San Dimas.
