Energy Conservation Tips:

Set your air conditioner thermostat to 78°F or higher – health permitting – when you are at home.

Set it at 85°F (or turn it off), when you’re away from home.

Consider installing a programmable thermostat to regulate usage.

Clean or replace filters regularly, according to manufacturer recommendations.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for air conditioner maintenance and operation, such as keeping vents clear of obstructions.

Repair leaky air ducts.

Use a fan instead of your air conditioner to circulate air.

Open windows for cool air during the evening and early morning.

Close blinds or other window covers to block direct sunlight.

Energy Assistance

Did you know LA Works offers more than job search services? Our Energy Assistance Programs are joint ventures through partnership with various agencies like the City of Monrovia, Community Development Block Grant, and the Southern California Gas Company (SCGC). Through these partnerships we are able to offer the following assistance to our customers:

CARE Program: Lower your monthly gas bill through the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program. SCGC's CARE Program offers customers a 20% or more discount off their monthly gas bill. Customers may qualify for the CARE Program if they meet the income guidelines and other program requirements.

Home Improvement Program: (MAP) The Monrovia area partnership is a comprehensive approach to delivering public services in the City of Monrovia. The residential rehabilitation program provides dynamic visual impact withing MAP neighborhoods by installing such features as new roofs, fresh paint, energy efficient windows, security lighting, and more.

Weatherization Program: The Southern California Gas Company and LA Works want to help you save money on your utility bills by repairing or replacing faulty gas appliances and adding weather-efficiency measures to your home. Free to qualified customers.
